The End of the Year

It has been such an amazing year.  I am so pleased and proud of each of the fourth grade students.  It’s saddening that the conclusion of the school year is in one week, but I am proud of the hard work and determination shown by our group.  This group of fourth graders is absolutely incredible and I feel fortunate I was able to play a role in their educational development.

Next week I will be available for conferencing.  It is optional, but if you choose to meet with me we will discuss SAT assessment scores, yearly grade averages, strengths and weakness, and summer goals.  Please email me to let me know a time that you would like to meet. Thank you so much and I look forward to working with you for the remainder of the year and next year as well!

The students are really enjoying the new unit.  We are ending this year on a high note!  Please send a shoe box with your child on Tuesday for an activity we are completing in conceptual.
I was so proud of the students' performance on our math test last week.  Encourage your child to have the same amount of determination in the last few weeks of school.  We are beginning a topic in math that deals with forms of measurement.  It will probably be next week before we will test on this subject.
I am sure many of you have heard about how different our book for this unit is from the other books we have read thus far.  As I stated previously in a blog posting, it will be some of the students’ favorite book.
Remember you’re always welcome to stop by the classroom.  The students always enjoy sharing what they are learning with their parents.
Thanks,
TRENT

Hey Parents,
I have a couple of reminders for you:

“May the 4th Be With You” party money and forms need to be turned in tomorrow.  I have several students that are telling me they are coming, but I have not received any the money or the forms from some students.

Each student needs $1 and a white t-shirt for the tie-dye on Thursday.  I need money for the tie-dying kits by Wednesday.  Send your child in an outfit you won’t mind getting stained.

Field Day is on May 4th.  We are meeting at the Bellegrass Fields at 8:30.

Hey Parents,
This is our last week of the WWI/WWII unit.  The students have been very mature about the subjects we have discussed. Next week we will start our last unit of the year.  This last unit will be about the 50's through modern times.
This week we will complete several centers activities based on picture books relating to our unit.  We will be discussing allegory and how the process of story telling is enriched using this method.
We will not have spelling words this week, but we will have a test at the end of the week for last week's vocabulary words.  Remember to order the book for the next unit.
We are starting our math test on Monday and will be finishing it on Tuesday.  The students will have their journals with them on Monday night to prepare for the test.
For science this week we are continuing the topic on living things.  We will focus on the different ways in which biological classification takes place.
Don/t forget:
Wednesday-WWII museum field trip
Friday- Free dress and talent show

The Giver

Hey parents,
Can you believe that we only have one more unit this year?  I have enjoyed all the many books we have read as a class and am especially excited about the last book of the year.  The Giver is a book that unlike our previous books this year, looks to the future to a world that might be.  There will be so much to discuss and I am excited to share this acclaimed novel by Lois Lowry with the students.
For the next unit you have the option to order either the paperback or the hardback edition.  The hardback is an illustrated special edition.  If you would rather the paperback, just click on the mass market paperback edition option.  Here is the link: http://www.amazon.com/Giver-illustrated-gift-Lois-Lowry/dp/0547424779/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1334705047&sr=8-1  If you would like me to order the book for you please let me know by Friday.
Thanks,

Hey parents,
This week we will be returning to our normal schedule.  I am very proud of how our students behaved and preformed during the testing last week.
If you have not ordered Number the Stars yet please do so.  Every student needs to have a book so that they can read along and aloud.  Because the text is shorter than some of our other books the students will not read at home.
For grammar this week we will finish discussing pronouns.  Please make sure you are looking over any work I send home.
There will be a test in math on topic 14.  This topic covers area and perimeter.  I will be sending home the reteaching sheets so that you can help your child study on Wednesday night.
In science we are beginning to talk about living things this week.  Please send in any colored clay for a cell activity I have planned.
Mrs. Lisa asked the teachers to ask our parents to send in squishy balls for a conceptual activity.  They will be throwing the balls at each other so make sure that you send something that will not hurt to get struck by
